If you want to experience Half-Life 2 VR in better graphics already, you can try out a mod pack that the modder Ashok has put together. You can find it on Github or Pastebin . In addition to graphics mods, the mod pack contains new campaigns that have been tested for their VR suitability and should entertain for hours.
The game is completely playable and enjoyable without playing the other Half-Life games first. That said, since you have a Quest 2, you could play Half-Life 1 in VR using Lambda1VR. Hi I'm trying to see if a custom map/campaign can work with this mod. I checked the website and it says to place custom content in: /Half-Life 2 VR/hlvr/custom. I'm not sure if this is is just for custom textures or I actually but custom map data here. I downloaded Half Life Year Long Alarm and looking at the files it doesn't make sense to

You could try it, but you may not have enough CPU in a "bad pc". You always need all the power you can get for vr mate. If you have half life 2, a headset and a PC I would just give it a try, lower the settings to minimum and see what happens. It should be free if you already own half life 2.
HL3 will end up being those game you play directly with your brain, via a connection port somewhere on you, like that Yggdrasil game from Overlord. Better yet once you install the game the gman appers in your house and proceeds to teleport you to the world of half life. Truly one of the moments of all time.

Do not MOVE the folder, you NEED to have openvr_api.dll in both the orignal VR folder AND in the main half life directory Before launching, be sure direct mode is enabled, and make the opengl.32dll, and BOTH LOCATIONS OF openvr_api.dll read only as well (apply to the 1 in VR folder and main half life folder)
